Fashion in the 1970s was daring, carefree and diverse. For women they wore skirts ranging from extremely long to drastically short and the fabrics were bright and boldly patterned. Men wore their shirts tight and their pant-legs wide. The ‘hippie’ entered the ‘mainstream’ and ethnic inspired fashion brought in from all around the world. 1970s fashion changed frequently, but always liked to shock people, whether it was towering platform shoes, huge bell-bottoms flares, or tight, shiny, disco inspired hot pants. The 1970s also saw the emergence of the indifferent approach to fashion, which consisted of sweaters, t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers.
The fashion styles of the 1970s for women included; The Hippie look, Glamour look, Casual look, Active wear, Tailored styles, Relaxed look, One-piece swimsuits and the disco look. For the men it brought The Bright colour look, Informal attire, Punk, Sportswear and the Disco style. The punk styles was influenced by the American punk bands. The Glamour look was inspired by the 1940s American movie star glamour.
